East Grand Forks Sacred Heart at Climax/Fisher

Climax/Fisher’s Peyton Hoffman’s milestone night was spoiled by the red hot Sacred Heart Eagles who close out the regular season on a 13 game win streak.

The first 5 points of the game all came at the free throw line for Sacred Heart and a 3 pointer would cap their 8-0 run to start the game. Peyton Hoffman got things going scoring the Knights first 7 points, but were still down 13-7 which is as close as it would get for the rest of the game, but on multiple occasions. The threes were falling for Sacred Heart, as they had 6 of them drop in the first half. Just under two minutes left in the first half Peyton Hoffman got an entry pass into the post from her sister Brooklyn and was able to lay it up for her 2,000th career point. Reminder, Peyton Hoffman is just a sophomore. That cut it down to a seven point deficit, but Sacred Heart would take a 34-26 lead into the break.

Early on the two teams traded buckets back and forth, but then all of a sudden a flip was switched and the Eagles soared on a 14-2 run and got up to their biggest lead of 22. The lead would hang around 17-22 points until around the 3 minute mark. The Hoffman sisters kicked it back into gear and started scoring in a flurry. They went on a 15-4 run to close out the game, but unfortunately that effort came too late as they were still down 10 once the final horn sounded.

Sacred Heart finishes the season 22-4 and 16-1 in Section 8A and will await to hear who they will match up with in the playoffs. Climax/Fisher falls to 15-10 and 12-6 in Section 8A and will play at Red Lake County Central on Friday which could determine which of those two teams gets the 5th or the 6th seed.

Sacred Heart also won the JV game 46-11.
