Recap

The 4 vs 5 matchup was the closest of the day in the Region 2A Girls Basketball Tournament and both offenses started out strong. Four Winds/Minnewaukan’s start was a little stronger thanks to a 7 point quarter from Cailee Hanson as the Lady Indians held an 18-13 lead after the 1st quarter. The second quarter turned into the complete opposite as both the defenses started ramping it up as only 15 total points were scored. The Lady Indians just edged out the Burros by one in the quarter to take a 26-20 lead at the half.

After coming out of the locker room the two teams continued to go back and forth but Four Winds/Minnewaukan would again have the upper hand in the quarter outscoring 11-9 for a 37-29 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Indians would score first in the quarter to get their largest lead of the game of 10. That’s when the Burros offense got going. They went on a 10-2 run to get it all the way back to just a 2 point deficit thanks to a handful of trips to the free throw line by Paityn Olson. The Lady Indians responded by hitting a 3 to move momentum back in their favor for the moment as they were able to grow the lead back to 7, which is when they started trying to waste clock. However that got them out of a rhythm and got the Burros back to a 3 point game. Then the Burros had to play the foul game and they got the exact result they needed in an 0-2 trip and had a wide open look at a layup, but the pass was mishandled and trickled out of bounds with just under 10 seconds to go. Suri Gourd was then able to step up to the free throw line to make it a 5 point lead which essentially put the nail in coffin. The Burros made a last second layup to bring it down to 3 but the time expired shortly after and Four Winds/Minnewaukan came away victorious.

Four Winds/Minnewaukan will now match up with Carrington in the first game of the semifinals tomorrow night.
