Carrington vs Four Winds/Minnewaukan – Region 2A Girls Basketball Tournament Semifinals
Recap
Carrington’s balanced attack and strong defense was too much for Four Winds/Minnewaukan as the #1 team in Region 2A advances to the championship.
It took Carrington a moment to get things going. Four Winds/Minnewaukan’s Suri Gourd hit a 3 to make it a 7-5 lead for the Cardinals and then the Cardinals turned up the heat. They went on a 16-0 run that went into the 2nd quarter. Carrington forced 7 turnovers on the Lady Indians in the first quarter. Between that and the flurry of 3’s that fell for the Cardinals it resulted in the big run and the big halftime lead of 40-18.
Suri Gourd did her best to try and will her team back in to it as she scored 13 second half points. Unfortunately with 5 Cardinals with double digit points it was too much to fight back from the big deficit. The Cardinals just coasted throughout the second half matching everything the Indians did as they captured the 20 point victory to move on to the Region 2A Championship.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan will look to keep their season alive on Thursday in the 3rd place matchup where the winner goes on to play in the state qualifiers.
