It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week

April 14, 2026 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, along with Polk County Emergency Management is sharing advice for what to do if  severe weather hits. Jody Beauchane of Polk County Emergency Management says it’s important for residents to know the difference between a watch and warning, as you should have a different response for the two.

If a warning is put in place, and you’re unable to get home, Polk County Sheriff Jim Tadman says you should seek shelter immediately, and he shares some places in your community that you could go.

Tadman also encourages you to report severe weather you’re seeing to the sheriff’s office, as that can help them get information out to the rest of the community.
