International Falls and Littlefork-Big Falls played the Borderland Battle on the softball diamond Friday, while the Broncos also picked up a weekend win over Marshall.
The day started with the Broncos falling to Moose Lake-Willow River 6-3. The Rebels were powered by a three-run homer from Jessie Volk and strong pitching, striking out 13 Broncos hitters.
Moose Lake-Willow River then rolled past the Vikings 19 to 3 in game two. Jessie Volk drove in four runs, while Isabella Emmons added three hits and four RBIs in the win.

In the Borderland Battle finale, the Broncos answered back in a big way, beating Littlefork-Big Falls 13-1. Neva Kokesh drove in four runs on three hits, while Cheznee Skrien added a two-run homer in the first inning. Jaleigh Carlson struck out five in a complete game effort in the circle.
Broncos pitcher Jaeleigh Carlson talked about settling in after a shaky first inning.

Catcher Mara Buller also discussed moving from shortstop behind the plate during the game.

For the Vikings, Tenley Westerman and Lila Hoopman say the focus now turns to bouncing back in Monday’s rematch.

Then on Saturday, the Broncos capped the weekend with an 8 to 1 win over Marshall. Alyana Koenig tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts and also went three for four at the plate.
