McIntosh Man Accused Of Breaking Into A Home & Waving A Hatchet

RED LAKE FALLS, MN—A McIntosh man is in custody after allegedly breaking into a home in Poplar Bluff Township, near Brooks, and waving a hatchet. According to a criminal complaint, Red Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were called at 11:36 Thursday night to a residence in Poplar Bluff Township.  The caller said 49-year-old Jesus Octavio Peralta of McIntosh had arrived and chased him out of the home with a hatchet.  The caller and a female victim told the deputies Peralta broke into the home when the couple was in an upstairs bedroom.  Peralta allegedly kicked open the bedroom door, grabbed a hatchet that was behind the TV set and chased the caller from the home.  Peralta then returned to the bedroom and argued with the female victim.  While they argued, Peralta swung the hatchet into the drywall, leaving a hole in the wall.  Peralta also blocked the woman from leaving while he still had the hatchet.  The woman said she believes Peralta was upset because she was divorcing him.  Peralta was tracked to a McIntosh residence where deputies saw a hatchet in plain sight on the passenger seat in Peralta’s truck.  A search warrant was obtained early Friday morning and Peralta was arrested without incident.  He’s been charged in Red Lake County District Court with two counts of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, felony kidnapping to terrorize or cause bodily harm and misdemeanor domestic assault.  Peralta is being held in custody in the Red Lake County Jail.
