East Grand Forks, MN — The Red Lake County Rebels captured their second straight Section 8A-West Sub-Section Championship after they beat the Ada-Boru[-West Cougars 10-4.
The Cougars scored first after their first three batters reached in the first inning and then Connor Nelson grounded out to the short stop to score Ames Fassino. Red Lake County would respond almost instantly in their half of the first with Will Gieseke being hit by a pitch and then Ben Gullingsrud blasting a two-run home run over the left field fence to take the 2-1 lead. From there Red Lake County would score in each and collect at lead two hits in each inning after, not including the sixth inning. Ada-Borup-West made things interesting with 3 fifth inning runs but Red Lake County would remain in control and would eventually close it out to win 10-4.
Red Lake County will now play Bagley in the Section 8A Semifinals on Saturday at Jim Karn Field in Crookston. First pitch is set for 4:30 pm.
