Recap
Red Lake Falls vs. New York Mills – Class A Quarterfinals
North Mankato, MN — After a pitchers duel for the first 5 innings of the game, Red Lake Falls explodes for 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to move on to the winner’s bracket at state for the first time in program history.
New York Mills applied pressure instantly in the top of the 1st after their leadoff hitter Aurora Jabas reached on a miscommunicated popup and then stole second. She was able to reach 3rd with just one out, but then Kyle Klipping came up big for Red Lake Falls by getting a strikeout and a fly out. From that point on the pitchers duel began between Rosemary Laudenbach for New York Mills and Kyle Klipping as both teams bats were almost nonexistent for the next two innings. Then in the 4th New York Mills posed another threat as Bella Huwe scortched a single out to the right center field fence and then Annika Dunrud walked to make it runners on first and second with no outs. Again with her back against the wall, Klipping worked her way out of a jam by forcing a fly out in the infield, a grounder back to herself, and another strikeout to keep it 0-0. Then in the bottom of the 5th Red Lake Falls finally got their first runner in scoring position thanks to a one out double from Kayla Schafer, but Red Lake Falls couldn’t capitalize on that either, but the top of the order was due up next to start the 6th. After Klipping sat down New York Mills in order in the top of the 6th, the Red Lake Falls bats exploded. Layna Schindler lead off the inning with an infield single, and was immediately moved over to second after the sacrifice bunt from Shandi Nelson. With 1st base open, New York Mills decided to walk Kylie Klipping. Then Grace Knutson reached first on a throwing error to load up the bases with just one out. Then Ava Seegar was finally able to put a crooked number up on the scoreboard after delivering a 2 RBI single back up the middle. Red Lake Falls wasn’t done there, immediately after Kayla Schafer delivered a moon shot homerun out right center field to bring in 3 more and just like that it was 5-0. It forced a pitching change as Abigail Berndt was able to strikeout the next two batters to finish off the inning. With momentum on their side Klipping again was able to put down New York Mills in order in the top of the 7th to make her team move on to the semifinals.
