Oak Grove sweeps Hillsboro/Central Valley in Burros home opener

The Grovers handled business on the road in a non-region game to begin the season by taking a tightly contested first set. The teams traded the lead multiple times down the stretch but the service line ultimately decided the match. Grovers libero, Linden Broneske dropped an ace serve on the backline to win the first set 26-24.

Then Molly Welsch picked up where Broneske left off in set 1. The Grovers went up 8-0 which included a couple aces from Welsch in the run, who ended up with 5 aces in the match. The Grovers sailed to a 25-15 set 2 victory.

The Grovers gained an 8-point lead in set 3 looking for a comfortable sweep, but the Burros mounted their best run of the match getting the block going to slow down Alayna Foster-Devold of Oak Grove and her double-digit kill night. The Burros clawed all the way back to claim the lead late in the set 24-23, but ultimately the Grovers rattled off three straight points to take a tight 3rd set to finish the sweep.

The Grovers’ Molly Welsch earned the Enbridge Energy Player of the Game honors.
