Fertile-Beltrami at Clearbrook-Gonvick
Preview
With a potential home playoff game on the line the Falcons of Fertile-Beltrami and Bears of Clearbrook-Gonvick took to the gridiron and it was a fast start for the Bears who forced a 3-and-out on the opening drive from Fertile-Beltrami and turned it quickly into a 43 yard touchdown run from Avery Ostenaa on the ensuing drive.
There would be no easing off the gas from the Bears either as the defense was suffocating throughout the contest particularly in the 1st half forcing 4 consecutive 3-and-outs from the Falcons on the first 4 possessions Fertile-Beltrami had in the game. The Falcons would eventually get their offense off the ground and put together a number of impressive drives but a fumble and a couple 4th down stops from the Bears defense in the red zone kept the shutout in tact as Clearbrook-Gonvick had a defensive performance for the ages.
It was also an electric game from fullback Avery Ostenaa who glided through the Falcons defense to the tune of 179 yards on just 12 carries and all 5 of the games touchdowns. Ostenaa at one point in the 1st quarter had 3 carries for 97 yards and 3 touchdowns.
In total, the Bears would only attempt 2 passes in the game completing 1 for 32 yards, as the run game was cruising. The Bears ran the rock 43 times as a team for 333 yards, an astonishing 7.7 yards per carry for the evening, enough to power Clearbrook-Gonvick to their 4th win of the season and a likely home playoff game when section playoffs are officially announced.
