Fosston Man Dies In Shooting; Suspect in Custody
FOSSTON, MN—Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following. A Fosston man has died from injuries he received in a shooting Monday afternoon. The alleged shooter is in custody.
31-year-old Teejay Alvarez died Tuesday morning from a gunshot wound. The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Cory Burnette Jr. of Fosston, was arrested at the crime scene without incident. He’s in custody in Crookston on probable cause second degree assault and discharge of a firearm. Formal charges are pending.
Fosston Police were called to an apartment building on the 300 block of Mark Avenue around 3:20 Monday afternoon after a 911 call about a disturbance that may have involved a gun . Police learned Alvarez had been shot and a private party had taken him to Essentia Health in Fosston. Alvarez was later airlifted to a Fargo hospital.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation into the shooting. That investigation continues.
