Thompson 3, Grand Forks Red River 1 (25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19)

Vivien Majkrzak had 15 kills and Thompson served 10 aces as the Tommies defeated Grand Forks Red River in 4 sets Thursday night in Thompson.

Thompson (9-6) used a 9-2 run at the end of the first set to close out a 25-20 victory.  Then the Tommies jumped to a 6-0 start in the second set.  While Red River (2-14) clawed to within 20-16, two kills by Kaylee Kurz, a Red River hitting error, a kill by Jocelyn Oster and a Quin Schwab service ace gave Thompson a 25-16 win.

In set 3, Thompson took a 12-5 lead, but the Roughriders fought back to win 25-23 with Sloane Smaby serving 3 consecutive aces late in the set.

The Tommies took control of the 4th set early and led 18-11.  Red River got to within 20-17, but an Andie Schwab block got Thompson on the path to a 25-19 win to take the match.

Andie Schwab had 8 kills, 2 blocks and an ace, while sister Quin Schwab served 3 aces for Thompson.

Paige Anderson had 11 kills and 3.5 blocks for Red River, while Smaby ended the night with 6 aces.

Thompson: 46 kills, 7 blocks, 10 aces, 3 service errors

Thompson goes to Northern Cass on Tuesday, while Red River plays at Fargo Davies.
