Northern Cass 27, Bottineau 17

Hudson Rietschel ran for one touchdown and passed for another as 5th ranked Northern Cass defeated 4th ranked Bottineau 27-17 Friday night at Northern Cass.

The senior quarterback rushed 9 times for 76 yards, while completing 10 of 20 passes for 139 yards with 2 interceptions.  Senior Trever Lee led the Jaguar (2-0) ground game with 128 yards on 20 carries and a 29 yard TD that put Northern Cass in front 21-17 with 3:30 to play in the third quarter.

Northern Cass opened the scoring on a 5 yard TD run by Howard Gellner with 7:00 to play in the first quarter.  Brody Zieske’s PAT made it 7-0.

Bottineau (1-1) responded 57 seconds later with quarterback Emerson Marum rushing for a 75 yard TD to tie the game at 7.

In the second quarter, the Braves took their first lead on a 23 yard TD pass from Marum to Skylar Foster. Ben Halvorson’s extra point put Bottineau in front 14-7.

The Jaguars tied the game with 23 seconds left in the first half as Rietschel scored on a 3 yard run. The PAT made it 14-all at halftime.

Bottineau regained the lead on their first drive of the third quarter when Halvorson kicked a 26 yard field goal to make it 17-14 in favor of the Braves.

Northern Cass regained the lead on the following possession as Lee scored on a 29 yard run, making the score 21-17 after three quarters.

The Jaguars started the fourth quarter with a 9 play, 67 yard drive that took 3:41 that finished when Rietschel connected with Brooks Crockett on a 35 yard scoring pass to make the score 27-17, which was the final.

Northern Cass’s defense had 5 sacks on the night and held Bottineau to -19 yards rushing in the second half.

Northern Cass travels to Lisbon next Friday; Bottineau plays at Minot Bishop Ryan on Saturday.

Bottineau’s Marum was 17 of 29 passing for 185 yards and a touchdown.  He ran 12 times for 59 yards and a score.  The Braves’ Landyn Grant caught 4 passes for 49 yards and intercepted 2 passes.

Crockett was the leading receiver for Northern Cass with 4 catches for 74 yards and a TD.
