New Dog Grooming Program Opens Registration at Northwest Technical College

Northwest Technical College, in collaboration with Minnesota North College Customized Training Solutions and Bemidji State University, has announced a new professional dog grooming course set to run from November 2, 2026, to January 21, 2027. The program offers a research-based curriculum designed to equip students with the practical skills and foundational knowledge necessary to enter the pet care industry, covering essential techniques such as skin and coat maintenance, nail trimming, and early detection of potential health issues.

Aligned with the American Kennel Club (AKC) National Core Educational Standards, the training prepares participants for the AKC Professional Grooming Credential Exam. Upon successful completion, students earn two distinct certifications: the Dermabather Certificate and the AKC Professional Dog Grooming Certificate. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Northwest Technical College’s campus in Bemidji, Minnesota.

Tuition for the comprehensive program is set at $9,000, and it is approved for WIOA funding through local CareerForce Centers. To support out-of-town participants, optional housing is available at nearby Bemidji State University, located just 1.5 miles from the grooming facility. Prospective students can register or obtain additional details through Minnesota North College’s Customized Training Solutions website, www.customizedtrainingsolutions.org or by contacting the program directly at 218-293-6920.
