The White Earth Nation has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the federal Fee-to-Trust process for a proposed development near Moorhead, presenting an updated project framework to the Clay County Board of Commissioners.

During the presentation, representatives from the White Earth Reservation Business Committee, including Chairman Michael Fairbanks and Secretary-Treasurer Jacob McArthur, provided local officials with an overview of completed work, federal approval steps, expected timelines, and opportunities for intergovernmental collaboration.

As part of its refined planning strategy, the Nation is now pursuing an 80-acre Fee-to-Trust application concept within a larger parcel of land situated east of Moorhead. Tribal leaders noted that this modified approach follows ongoing evaluation of project needs, guidance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and feedback gathered from surrounding communities and local leadership.

The White Earth Nation is currently preparing documentation for its formal application, aiming for a submission in early 2027. The upcoming federal review will require environmental assessments, agency consultations, and regulatory approvals.

Tribal leaders expressed a desire to partner closely with Clay County, the City of Moorhead, and nearby stakeholders to address joint considerations such as public safety and infrastructure needs. Emphasizing responsible planning and transparency, the Nation stated it intends to keep both tribal citizens and local communities informed as the evaluation moves forward.
