Special Membership Meeting Regarding Dissolution of Chamber
The International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is calling a special meeting of the Chamber membership.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the current state of the Chamber. On Monday, February 7, 2022, the Board of Directors unanimously voted to dissolve the Chamber. This action requires a vote of the membership, and we will be holding a meeting of chamber members on Tuesday, March I, 2022 from 11:30a – 1:00p at Backus Community Center.
The Board of Directors did not make this decision easily. Our current financial situation was greatly compromised with the secession of the contract with the City of International Falls and the elimination of nearly 1/4 of our annual income which has been difficult to replace amid a pandemic, the economic conditions of our area, and the decline in support of the Chamber. Based on the trending of the past decade+, it was difficult to forecast a way forward that would be sustainable long term. Approaching our next fiscal year, we found it difficult to solicit for dues from local businesses when we couldn’t guarantee ROI to our members on their investment. Therefore, the Board proposes that the dissolution of the Chamber be effective on April 30, 2022, the end of our current fiscal year.
Each member of the Chamber is allowed I vote and we hope that you are able to attend, or send a representative of your organization to this important meeting. This meeting is only open to Chamber Members.
