Red Lake, MN — The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds pulled out a victory over the Red Lake Warriors on Monday night 80-68 to snap their two game losing streak.

Red Lake lead by six 27-21 at the 9-minute mark of the first half but Mahnomen/Waubun was able to make their own 17-8 run to take a late first half lead before It was knotted 40-40 at halftime. The Thunderbirds defense was stingy in the second half allowing only 28 Red Lake Warrior point and got a big second half performance out of Dennis Ashley who scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half. Four other Thunderbird players scored in double figures en route to the 12 point win to improve to 7-4 on the season. Mahnomen/Waubun will play the Win E Mac Patriots on Tuesday night. Red Lake falls to 8-4 and will also play the second of a back to back on Tuesday when they travel to Goodridge/Grygla.
