Weird & Wacky Wenesday: “Last Conviction In Salem Witch Trials Cleared 329 Years Later”
(Salem, MA) — The last conviction in the Salem Witch Trials is finally being cleared 329 years later. Elizabeth Johnson Jr. confessed to practicing witchcraft during the witch trials and was the only person convicted whose named wasn’t cleared. She was sentenced to death in 1693, but avoided the death sentence after she was granted a reprieve. The exoneration came as part of the Massachusetts budget which was signed by Governor Charlie Baker last week.
