Pine Point pow-wow
The White Earth band of Ojibwe in the Ponsford area will hold their annual Pine Point Traditional Pow-wow on Saturday and Sunday. Nikki Norcross is the chair of the pow-wow committee.
The derby Norcross referred to is a demolition derby that will start at 5pm on Friday. Then on Saturday, the Joe Bush Memorial 5K walk/run will start at 8:30am, followed by a flag-raising at 10am, plus a feast at 5pm. Also on Saturday, a princess and brave will be chosen from kids ages 7 to 18. The grand entries at 1 and 7 on Saturday will feature traditional Native American dancing and singing. Finally on Sunday, there’s a car parade at 10:30am with the final grand entry at 1:00.
The Pine Point Pow-wow will be held in Ponsford, a half mile west of the Pine Point School. It is free and open to the public. There will be camping on site and showers available at the school. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed on site; nor will colors be allowed.
