Recap

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 16, Fairmont 7

Jordan Summers rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton’s defense forced three takeaways as the Rebels defeated Fairmont 16-7 Saturday in the Class AAA semifinals at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

After a scoreless first quarter, Summers scored on a 14 yard run 38 seconds into the second quarter, capping off a nine play, 64 yard drive that took 3:52.  Hayden Hauf’s extra point gave the Rebels a 7-0 lead.

Fairmont responded with a seven play, 72 yard drive of their own to tie the score.  Brendan Schmidtke completed three passes to Levi Pooley on the drive, including an 11 yard touchdown pass.  the extra point tied the game at 7 with 8:16 to go in the first half.

The game stayed that way until the first play of the fourth quarter, when Hauf kicked a 22 yard field goal–his first of the season–to give DGF a 10-7 lead.

Fairmont would drive to the Rebel 17 yard line, when Schmidtke inexplicably fumbled.  DGF’s Max Baumgartner recovered with 8:25 to play.

From there, the Rebels would drive 83 yards in 11 plays for a clinching touchdown.  Summers was injured during this drive, so Nick Waale moved to Summers’ tailback spot and ran 25 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was missed, so DGF led 16-7.

On Fairmont’s first play after the kickoff, Schmidtke’s pass was intercepted by Owen Leach at midfield. The Rebels ran out the clock from there.

DGF remains undefeated at 12-0 for the season.  Fairmont’s season ends at 10-3.

The Rebels will return to US Bank Stadium on Saturday, December 3 to play New London-Spicer (a 33-28 winner over Watertown-Mayer) for the State AAA football crown.
