Fertile Beltrami 65 Ada-Borup-West 61 OT

With both teams making key plays it was the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons who came out on top on the road with the 65-61 OT win over the Ada-Borup-West Cougars. The Falcons kept the Cougars scoreless for more than eight minutes midway through the first half, while Caiden Swenby had a steal and score and a chase-down block on defense for an 11-0 run that had the Falcons on top at halftime leading 25-16. The lead would grow to as many as 12 points in the second half before the Cougars defense and perimeter shooting helped rally them to tie the game at 45-45 with seven minutes left in regulation after a Charlie Scholl block and transition layup. The score would be tied twice more in the closing minutes before a pair of free throws gave the Cougars a 56-54 lead in the final minute. But with the defense focused on the ball handler Isaiah Wright was able to slip into the lane to receive the pass for the layup to tie the game before a Cougar shot missed and the game went into overtime. Once again with a tie score the Falcons had the ball and found Derek Sorenson for a left wing three-pointer that put the Falcons up 61-58. Trailing by three the Cougars forced a turnover to get the ball back with and hit a three that would have tied the game, but a timeout was called by the Cougars just before the shot to wipe it away. A foul on the inbounds play put the Cougars on the free throw line down three with 7.6 seconds left. After making the first, the second free throw missed and Preston Hanson grabbed the rebound and knocked down two free throws after being fouled to ice the game and give the Falcons the victory.
