The #3 ranked Cherry Tigers closed the game with a 19-10 run as they held off the Fosston Greyhounds 68-59 Friday night in front of a packed house at Cherry High School. The Tigers finished fourth in the State Tournament last year and are proving to be one of the top teams in northern Minnesota in 2022-2023.. Isaac Asuma led the Tigers with 27 points and 10 rebounds as Cherry improved to 12-3 ovrerall. The game was tied at 25-25 at halftime and Fosston led by as many as six at 40-34 in the second half. The Tigers tied the game at 49-49 with 8:58 left in the game and took the lead for good at 56-54. Landon Ruotsalainen came off the bench to hit three big 3 pointers for Cherry. Carsen Boushee led Fosston with 17 points as the Greyhounds fall to 12-3 overall. Cullen Norland added 10 points and Aaron Norland and Darren Skala each scored 9 points for Fosston. Fosston won the “B” Squad game 49-34 and Fosston also won the “C” Squad game 71-17. Cherry has only one senior on the team this season.
