Ada-Borup-West 8, Northern Freeze 7 (10 innings)

Baron Odden’s two run single in the bottom of the tenth inning gave Ada-Borup-West a 8-7 victory over Northern Freeze Thursday afternoon at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.

Northern Freeze jumped to a 3-0 first inning lead thanks to a single, two walks, a single and two more walks with the bases loaded.  ABW got on the board in the second inning when Wyatt Larson led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a bad throw by the left fielder and came in to score on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Northern Freeze got that run back in the third to lead 4-1, but the Cougars would score four times in the bottom of the third.  Cannon Anderson’s two run single brought in the go-ahead runs for ABW.

Northern Freeze tied it with a run in the fourth inning on an ABW throwing error on a sacrifice bunt.  The Cougars regained the lead in the sixth on Austin McCraven’s rbi double to make it 6-5.

The game was tied again in the top of the seventh when Dawson Walz drove in Parker Nelson to make it 6-6.

The game stayed tied until the top of the tenth, when Straet Spilde tripled with one out and then scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Cougars’ Trent Sip reached first when right fielder Walz dropped his fly ball. Sip advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.  Anderson walked; then Caspar Kritzberger reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no one out.  That set the stage for Odden, who singled to right to score Sip and Anderson and send Cougars fans home happy.

McCraven was the winning pitcher in relief, going six innings, allowing four hits, two runs, a walk and eight strikeouts.  The sophomore also went 3 for 5 at the plate with two doubles and a run batted in.

Cade Knutsen took the loss in relief for Northern Freeze, going three innings with two hits allowed, two runs (one earned), one walk and five strikeouts.

ABW improves to 3-3 on the year; the Cougars host Win-E-Mac Monday afternoon.

Northern Freeze is now 1-4 for the season.
