Ada-Borup-West’s baseball team earned its first win of the season Thursday as the Cougars defeated Fertile-Beltrami 15-2 in five innings at Fertile.
The Cougars took advantage of eight walks, four hit batters and three Fertile-Beltrami errors en route to the victory. Ada-Borup-West scored one run in the first inning, seven in the second (First baseman Cannon Anderson had a two run single in that frame), two in the third inning and five in the fourth (Cameron Spaeth had a two run single and right fielder Austin McCraven had a two run triple in the fourth. McCraven was 2 for 3 with 4 rbi on the day). Fertile-Beltrami scored single runs in the second and fifth innings.
Lance Kritzberger was the winning pitcher, going four innings for ABW, allowing two hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Cadyn Dahl pitched the fifth inning for the Cougars, allowing a run on two walks and no hits.
Gavin Aakhus and Steven Sather were both 1 for 2 for Fertile-Beltrami. Aakhus took the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned), three hits, three walks and three hit batters in an inning and two thirds.
ABW (1-2) takes on BGMR Friday in Greenbush. Fertile-Beltrami (2-1) plays at Lake Park-Audubon on Friday.
