Fertile Protests Removal Of City’s Nursing Home Administrator

FERTILE, MN—Almost 70 people jammed into the Fertile City Council chambers for Monday night’s meeting. The majority of them were in support of Angie Leiting, the former administrator for the Fair Meadow Nursing Home.  Leiting resigned June 20th after she was told by the City Council to resign or be fired.  April Swenby, a Fertile resident, spoke to the Council about Leiting’s departure.

Swenby continued by mentioning a number of closed session meetings the Council recently held…with very little notice.

Following the council meeting, Fertile Mayor Daniel Wilkens was asked to comment on the groundswell of support for Leiting.

When asked if the Council’s actions might mean he and the other four council members could lose re-election bids, Wilkens responded:

Angie Leiting, the center of this firestorm, attended the meeting and responded to the community’s support.

The only other business at Monday’s Fertile City Council meeting was to reschedule a public hearing on amending the city code regarding operation of golf carts on city streets.  The hearing was originally scheduled for Monday’s meeting, but will now be held at the August council meeting.
