Hawley Baseball & Softball Fields To Stay Put
HAWLEY, MN—There seems to be a truce in Hawley when it comes to the City Council and parents concerned that the softball and baseball fields near the rodeo grounds would be sold. You’ll remember last month, the Council said it had been approached by a business about buying the land west of the ball fields. That led to dozens of people attending the June Council meeting, saying they were against the idea. On Monday, Hawley Mayor Sean Mork said the City and Hawley School District have come to terms on a 20 year lease.
Mork downplayed the idea that a deal to sell the land, which is off Highway 10, was in the works.
The lease agreement is a dollar per year from the Hawley School Board to the City. Mork was asked if the public response in June led to the lease agreement.
Only a handful of people attended Monday’s Hawley City Council meeting….compared to the standing room only crowd at the June meeting.
