Strong Winds cause damage at Island Lake
A group of storms tore through the area August 1st causing significant damage. One such area was Island Lake just south of Lengby. Jim Kaiser, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service (NOAA) fills us in a little on how these storms come to be.
Kaiser shares that the temps coupled with high humidity created the perfect conditions for a strong storm front.
Being a property owner on Island Lake, we were surprised by the high winds yesterday evening. The front hit around 5:45 with high winds and heavy rain. Island Lake suffered damage from high winds to trees, pontoons, lifts and docks – particularly on the West Side. Other lake members compared the lake conditions to hurricane-like winds. Neighbors in the area were quick to jump into action to clear roads and help clear trees and debris. As another lake member stated “Island Lakers take care of each other- one big happy family!” I have certainly found this to be true and am so thankful for quick action and community effort. *photo by Barb Hagen
