MN Sen. Johnson On School Resource Officer Controversy
Many police departments across Minnesota have chosen to remove school resource officers from their local schools because of new language passed during this year’s Legislative session regarding physical restraint in schools. There have been calls for Governor Tim Walz to call a special session to solve the problem. Likewise, about 40 DFL lawmakers in the Minnesota House and Senate have sent a letter opposing a special session. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks says he believes the Governor wants to call a special session.
Johnson says the passage that changed State law regarding force in schools wasn’t passed in open debate.
Johnson says it will require some public pressure on Governor Walz to hold a special session.
