Cass County Sheriff K9 injured during an arrest
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that their K9 Ryker was severely injured during an arrest on Sunday, September 17. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office say they received a call about an assault in progress at a residence in Wilkinson township outside of Cass Lake.
Upon Arrival deputies learned that a male, Kyote Windom, age 27, of Cass Lake, had been in the area and was assaulting individuals with an axe. Deputies quickly located Windom and attempted to take him into custody. During the arrest Deputy Ryan Huston deployed his K9 Ryker.
The suspect swung a large metal pipe striking K9 Ryker twice in the head, causing significant injury. Windom was taken into custody, and K9 Ryker was transported to a Twin Cities area emergency veterinarian hospital and is receiving treatment. The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
K9 Ryker has been serving in the Cass County Sheriff for 4 years alongside his partner Deputy Ryan Huston. R&J will provide updates to this story as more information is released.
