Ahead of Hitterfest, Hitterdal Hit Hard by Storms

Hitterdal, MN — Less than a week before the annual Hitterfest celebration, the Hitterdal community was hit hard by heavy winds that left trees and power lines down all across the city. However, the Hitterdal Fire Department and numerous other community members have stepped up to clean up the city so it’s ready to go for the annual town celebration. Brian Nelson, Hitterdal Fire Chief, recaps the storm event.

Nelson especially gives credit his fire department members. While cleaning up trees isn’t in the normal job description of a fireman, he says everyone stepped up to help without question.

The Clay County Sentence to Serve Crew has also been helping clean up ahead of this Saturday’s Hitterfest, of which the Fire Department is a big part of. At 3pm they’ll be serving up some dip and dots ice cream and then from 5-7pm they’ll be hosting their annual pig roast. 

Earlier in the day, the Salem Church Ladies and Hitterdal Lions will be serving up food from 10am until 2:30pm as well. The annual parade will begin at 1pm and the car show run from 1-3, plus there will be kids fun and games at 2pm. And at 3pm will be the golf ball drop, which is a unique Hitterfest tradition, according to Nelson.
