Aitkin County HHS meeting with Board of Commissioners from September 27th
(Aitkin, MN) — Last week, the Aitkin County Board of Commissioners convened for their monthly update with the Health and Human Services Department from the Government Center Board Room.
The majority of the update covered the topic of Competency Restoration, which was explained by HHS Adult Social Worker Becca Person (peer-son).
Person gave an example of the services for an individual that is found incompetent to stand trial to help them understand the court system and regain competency.
The reasoning behind the update was the passing of state legislation that will impact how restoration services are provided statewide including recommendations for the Competency Task Force.
Person also added that Aitkin County has four employees who have received training and are able to provide competency restoration services, but the County has no formal funding mechanism to bill these services or travel time if needed.
The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners next meets on Tuesday, October 11th at 9am from the Government Center Board Room.
