(Aitkin, MN) —  As the recent snowfall continues to melt, soaks into the ground, and fills the lakes and rivers, the probability of Spring flooding is on the rise after checking in with Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida.

Even with bare ground now and the effects of drought conditions from last year, there are risks of flooding at a reasonable level for this time of year.

The Spring melt can also be dependent on how much snow and rain has accumulated to the north and the surrounding waters of Aitkin County.

Sheriff Guida, who is also the Emergency Management Director, also keeps tabs on the low-lying areas of Aitkin County that would be the highest concern for flooding due to ice dams.

Ice dams and rising rivers have stayed down which is a slow process which has kept Sheriff Guida happy.

Here much more our conversation with Aitkin County Sheriff, as he also talked about tourists returning to the area, highway safety, the latest scams and more, can be heard on the Wake The Lakes page at www.rjbroadcasting.com.
