(Garrison, MN) — This weekend is the Fishing Opener with many anglers chomping at the bit to get back in the water and seasonal visitors are also going to be back on the area lakes. This serves as a yearly reminder of the efforts to prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species.

In our monthly conversation with Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida, he did talk about deputies being dispatched to Aitkin County boat landings for AIS enforcement throughout the summer.

Deputies will take the time to keep tabs on boats coming and going from the lakes and make sure boaters are doing their part in AIS prevention.

Sheriff Guida noted that most of the boaters are local and know what the proper AIS measures are.

Guida did also talk about the overall awareness of boaters in Aitkin County when it comes to AIS prevention and the related effort that go with it.
