Aitkin School Board meeting from Monday, March 21st

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board held their monthly meeting Monday from the High School Meeting Center and covered topics of enrollment, teaching positions, and budget.
High School Principal Paul Karelis in his presentation to the Board, spoke on changes to the daily schedule to include two lunch periods with study halls.
Karelis also covered High School registration and changes within the building itself. Superintendent Dan Stifter opened the discussion on the proposal from ICS on the District’s Facilities plan coming off the approval of the Capital Projects Levy this past Fall.
The Board voted 4-2 to approve the ICS Facilities proposal and begin the process of improvements for Aitkin Schools. Superintendent Stifter also presented proposals for the District’s Strategic Plan.
Stifter also went into further detail on continuing with the Reading Title Teacher for two more years and continuing with the High School Special Education teacher position.
Stifter also highlighted the unfortunate loss of revenue due to enrollment.
The Board approved continuing with the position using a combination of title at ESSER funds
The Aitkin School Board will meet for a Work Session meeting on Monday, April 11th at 6:30pm from the High School Media Center.
