Area North Dakota Students Heading to State Speech Saturday
Several students from our main listening area on the North Dakota side of the Red River are preparing for the state Class B Speech meet Saturday.
At the regional tournament earlier this month in Northwood, Hillsboro’s Charlie Johnson finished in 2nd and 3rd in Poetry and Dramatic respectively, qualifying for the state tournament in both events. Hillsboro saw two other state qualifying entries after runner-up finishes at the regional tournament: Jack Short and Olivia Mau in Humorous Duo and Moss Williams in Humorous Interp. Hillsboro as a team finished in 3rd at the regional meet and Rachel Fenner was named the Coach of the Year.
As for other area schools, Hatton/Northwood will be sending a total of 15 entries to the state tournament, Northern Cass-seven entries, Maple River-four entries, and Thompson and May-Port-C-G will each have three entries. The state speech meet will be held at Mandan High School.
