Area schools tasked with funding large amounts of the READ Act

The Minnesota Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act, known as the READ Act was passed by the Minnesota legislature in 2023, and the goal of this legislation is to have every Minnesota child reading at or above grade level every year. Mahnomen Superintendent Jeff Bisek tells us more about this legislation, and how Mahnomen has been implementing it into their curriculum. 

However, while this legislation seems like a good idea up front, Bisek says that schools like Mahnomen are being tasked with a significant financial responsibility despite it being a government mandate.
