Arsenic Water Treatment Comes to Climax
Climax Minnesota has had trouble with high levels of Arsenic in their water. This happens when small pockets of Arsenic are exposed underground. After the high levels were discovered, the City of Climax involved the EPA to get the ball rolling in the right direction for water treatment. County Commissioner Joan Lee shares more:
The West Central Regional Water District was called in to try to get the arsenic levels down to an acceptable level. The project was done using ARPA funds. The pipeline utilizes treated water that is brought in from North Dakota to the City of Climax and other surrounding communities, with the possibility of serving much of Polk County in the future:
Arsenic is not uncommon in water, but keeping it at safe levels is a must. With the addition of the iron to facilitate the arsenic removal, the levels of arsenic are now down to 6 ppb, well below the new standard.
