Beware of Facebook Scams
Fosston, MN — Following up on a previous story about a GeekSquad scam that duped a resident from Polk County out of $30,000, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is also asking community members to be weary of a number of different Facebook scams that have been reported recently. Polk County Sheriff Jim Tadman says they are seeing a lot of scams in the last couple weeks that offer deals that are hard to come by such as free puppies or Taylor Swift tickets.
Sheriff Tadman notes that these types of scams are successful because they tend to trigger fast, emotional responses and don’t give the buyer a chance to second guess themselves.
Again, if you think someone may be scamming you, hang up, or don’t respond to high-pressure messages via social media, and contact law enforcement.
