Ada, MN — Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton was laid to rest in an honorable ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at the Ada-Borup-West High School. Sheriff Thornton passed away on Thursday, January 5th of Pancreatic Cancer, just a few days after taking the oath of office of what was to be his last term in office as Sheriff, a position he had held for the past 12 years. More than 150 law enforcement officers from around the state were in attendance to show their support, including some as far as McLeod County, Meeker County, and the city of St. Paul. They were joined also by first responders from every city in Norman County, along with several from neighboring counties.

Speaking at the funeral for Sheriff Thornton was long time friend, classmate, and fellow law enforcement officer Captain Tory Jacobson of the Moorhead Police Department.

The funeral closed with a final sign off with help from retired Norman County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher and friend of Sheriff Thornton, Danette Gwin.

Following the funeral was a procession that was miles long of friends, family, law enforcement officers, and first responders that traveled by the Norman County Courthouse and then to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Twin Valley, where Sheriff Thornton was buried.
