Bodies In Detroit Lakes Area Shooting Identified

DETROIT LAKES, MN—Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following.  The man and boy who were found dead Monday in the Detroit Lakes area have been identified.  Dead are Gene Bartnes and his 3-year-old son Koltyn.  The boy’s mother, Kristi Frazier, identified the bodies Tuesday morning. She told law enforcement she believes this is a murder-suicide and that Bartnes left a suicide note.  The two were found Monday afternoon when Bartnes’s brother checked after Bartnes didn’t show up for work.  The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab is assisting with the investigation.
