Bonding Bill discussions expected to ramp up in the coming weeks
There’s just two full weeks left in the 2025 legislative session, and one bill that’s expected to get a lot of lawmakers attention is the Bonding Bill. Minnesota Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead) says there’s a lot of groups in our region who are seeking bonding funding, and he anticipates some lengthy negotiations with the Minnesota House and Governor.
Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) says there’s also a lot of bonding competition state wide, and he spoke on the need to be able to compromise with legislators in different regions of the state like the Twin Cities, who are trying to get as much funding as possible for their region.
Both Kupec and Johnson are trying to secure bonding funding for rural water in Northwest Minnesota, and Johnson explains why this is one of his biggest priorities for the bonding bill.
Minnesota hasn’t passed a bonding bill since the $2.6 billion 2023 bonding bill.
