Boy Dies In Fireworks Accident

NAYTAWAUSH, MN—A 13-year-old boy is dead after a fireworks accident in Naytawaush.  The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday, July 4 around 11:15pm.  Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 310 New Circle Drive for a report of a male being struck by a firework.  When deputies arrived, they saw the victim wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.  CPR was used until paramedics arrived, but despite life-saving measures, the victim died shortly after midnight.  According to witnesses, the boy was holding a large firework, pointing it away from himself, when the firework was lit.  When the firework went off, it shot through the bottom of the tube and hit the boy in the chest.  The incident remains under investigation pending an autopsy.
