Buxton Building Still in Limbo
The Buxton City Council met in regular session Wednesday evening.
The council continued discussion on the property at 307 Broadway, currently owned by Riedhammer Masonry, LLC. The council’s initial offer to purchase the property for $3,000 was rejected by the owner. After further discussions weighing all the options, including proceeding with legal action instead of a buyout, the council felt that a $5,000 offer was acceptable. The owner did not accept that offer, but instead countered with an offer to submit a bid for the removal of the building before agreeing to sell the property. The owner also informed the council that there were some other parties interested in purchasing the property. Mayor Travis Soderberg reiterated that public safety is the primary concern, and the council allowed the owner to come up with a bid to be considered at next month’s meeting.
In other business, the council approved a trade program with Ironhide Equipment of Grand Forks for their recently purchased Bobcat Toolcat and legal action at the unkept property at 304 Ives Street. The council also continued discussion on the electronic sign project. The council was set to go with a Florida based company for the sign, but after concerns the sign would not function optimally in cold weather, they decided to pursue other options. Formal action was tabled until the next meeting.
