Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office Hosts ATV Safety Class in Clearbrook
Riders looking to get certified to operate all-terrain vehicles can join a safety course hosted by the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Clearbrook-Gonvick School. The program targets individuals 10 and older who need an official certification, which Minnesota state law mandates for anyone born after July 1, 1987. Older participants aged 16 and up have the option to satisfy the state requirement entirely online, skipping the in-person field day altogether.
To participate in the upcoming class, attendees must first pre-register by calling Andy Anderson at 218-776-3112 ext. 104. After signing up, students need to visit the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website at dnr.state.mn.us, navigate to “Education and Safety,” select “Recreational Vehicle Safety Courses,” and follow the links to complete the online ATV safety course. Once the online portion is finished, students must print out their completion certificate or voucher and bring it with them to the field day.
In addition to their online course voucher, students are required to bring a helmet and wear proper riding attire, which includes long pants, gloves, eye protection, and clothes suitable for the weather. Open-toed shoes are strictly prohibited.
The Field Day will take place at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School, located at 16770 Clearwater Lake Road in Clearbrook. Due to ongoing construction at the facility, attendees are instructed to park in the north parking lot and enter through Door #11. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m., with the class officially beginning at 5:00 p.m. A parent or legal guardian must attend the first portion of the class to assist with registration.
