Crow Wing Energized launching new classes
Crow Wing Energized is pleased to announce that we will be offering several classes that will start in January. All of the classes are free, but registration is required, and class sizes are limited.
Lifestyle Change Classes: We offer Lifestyle Change Classes through the National Diabetes Prevention Program. Classes meet once a week for the first 16 weeks and then monthly for the remainder of the year; we offer in-person and virtual classes. Our program is recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Participants learn how to create a healthier lifestyle and prevent diabetes. Topics include how to be a fat and calorie detective; ways to eat less fat and fewer calories; healthy eating; moving those muscles; being active as a way of life; skills to build healthier habits; and much more. We are offering two in-person classes in our area: The Center is hosting classes starting Jan. 13, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Lord of Life Lutheran Church is hosting classes starting Jan. 23, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Classes are also offered virtually throughout the year.
Contact Kara.Schaefer@EssentiaHealth.org to get more information about online classes.
Matter of Balance program: Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. The class will meet in person for eight weeks. Participants learn how to make changes to reduce the risks of falling at home, exercise to increase strength and balance, set goals for increasing activity, and view falls as controllable. Classes start at the Brainerd Family YMCA on January 10, and will meet from 10:00 a.m. to noon for a total of eight weeks.
Aging Mastery program: If you are thinking about retirement or know someone who recently retired, please share this information with them! The Aging Mastery Program meets virtually over a 10-week period and covers topics including gratitude; exercise; sleep; healthy eating and hydration; financial fitness; medication management; advance care planning; healthy relationships; fall prevention; and legacy. This fun, innovative program empowers you to take key steps to improve your well-being. Classes start on Jan. 24 and will meet from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. virtually using Zoom for a total of 10 weeks.
If you have taken one of these classes in the past and would like to be trained to teach the class, reach out to Karen.Johnson@EssentiaHealth.org or Kara.Schaefer@EssentiaHealth.org We are always looking for volunteers; we will train you.
