(Deerwood, MN) — Deerwood Technologies announced the annual recipients and presented their $500 scholarships to a pair of area graduating seniors, Eleanor Lewandowski of Crosby-Ironton High School and Karena Burgstaler of Aitkin High Schools, as both prepare to attend high education institutions.
In order to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be a student with a 2.5 or higher GPA; submit an essay 100 words or less answering the question: “How can technology benefit disadvantaged individuals, societies, and countries?”; and provide a list of their community involvement and volunteer activities. An employee committee of “blind referees” took those applications to select the annual recipients.
Deerwood Technologies’ scholarships are funded 100% through events such as recycling drives and other fundraisers, which are promoted, coordinated and staffed by employees and their families.
Scholarship payments will be issued to the institution of choice after the student has successfully completed their first academic term.
