Dr. Paul Severson honored with inaugural Global Humanitarian Award
Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Surgeon Paul Severson, M.D., on July 14 received the inaugural Global Humanitarian Award at the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation’s Award in Philanthropy Celebration at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa.
Dr. Severson was presented the award in recognition of his kindness, generosity, and passion for helping others. He has assisted in raising millions of dollars for Haiti’s healthcare facilities and served as a volunteer physician for 30 years with Project Haiti, a non-profit organization he founded that now has 800 volunteers who provide humanitarian relief to the impoverished people of Haiti.
He has made over 70 trips to Haiti as a missionary volunteer to teach laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery to more than 300 surgeons. Project Haiti also supported Hospital Bienfaisance with infrastructure improvements, expanding to add surgery and education wings, a dormitory, airport, and primary school in Pignon.
Dr. Severson is looking forward to spending more time there during his upcoming retirement. A video about his work may be viewed at: https://link.zixcentral.com/u/c5fb2bfb/FgWeJE0E7RGOiHnt9e_1Kg?u=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FKVV5Lmz6tjE
