Drivers Licenses For All Law begins in Minnesota

People living in Minnesota without legal immigration status can now begin the process of getting their driver’s license by making an appointment for their written driver’s test. This new law removes the requirement to show legal status when applying for a drivers license and it’s estimated that over 80,000 people in the state of Minnesota will become eligible for a license come October 1.

The State of Minnesota has also said that it will not share the information of applicants with any forms of immigration law enforcement to avoid potential deterrents. This bill has split public opinion with many supporters of the bill claiming that more licensed drivers will make Minnesota Roads safer while opposition to the law has claimed that it could encourage illegal immigration.
