Dry Bean Update 

The forecast as of late has been sunny and hot, but if you ask area producers what their crop needs, most are going to say rain. Carl Swenson of Lee Bean in Borup says they’re approaching a very critical time for the dry bean crop, and that some rain is very much needed. 

Swenson says fungicide application time is typically underway this time of year, but some producers are holding out for better conditions. 

When it comes to dry beans that producers are growing, Swenson says that there are a lot of black beans on the landscape this year that will end up right back into your pantry.
