Eichorn resigns from Minnesota Senate
Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn has resigned from his position in the Minnesota Senate after being federally charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) said the resignation was received early Wednesday, and that the Senate was planning to expel him.
Senator Johnson also explained why his caucus felt it was important to call for Eichorn’s resignation, and expulsion despite him not yet being found guilty of a crime.
Senator Johnson says with this now behind them, it’s now time to move on, and focus on legislation, with a busy week on the horizon.
Senator Johnson said that Eichorn resigned through email, and that they will be having talks with the governor to hold a special election to fill Eichorn’s now vacant seat.
